Take a walk at the marina and watch shellfishermen

Fishing trips and sailing expeditions start at the marina.  There’s a great walkway where visitors can see shellfishermen at work at low tide.  Benches invite the visitor to sit a while and enjoy the view.

Enjoy Wellfleet oysters and local seafood

Wellfleet offers many great restaurants in summer, including the world famous PB Boulangerie Bistro.  On Saturday evenings, stroll through the village for art gallery openings. On Wednesdays, join the town folk on the pier for an old-fashioned square dance. At low tide, shell fishermen dig for oysters and clams on the flats.  Oysters are on the menu in all the local restaurants.

    Discover Wellfleet's unique kettle ponds

Nestled in the woods, Chez Sven is within walking distance of Dyer Pond, described by the NY Times as the Cape’s “most beautiful, most hidden, most serene.”  Wellfleet has thirteen ponds, a swimmer’s delight.  Learn about how they were created by glaciers at the Seashore HQ in Eastham.

Explore the Cape Cod National Seashore or the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (MA Audubon)

No tour of Wellfleet would be complete without mention of the MA Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, with its well-maintained paths and eco-birdwatching center.  Go for a kayak tour on the marsh or a seal cruise in the harbor.  Hiking, biking, and paragliding are fun activities year-round in the National Seashore.

Policies

Our green policies:

We are proud that Chez Sven was the first bed & breakfast on the Outer Cape to promote eco-tourism and do our very best to maintain a healthy, chemical-free environment. Due to Sven’s allergies, we have always kept all rooms as allergen-free as possible, following guidelines established by the Green Hotels Association.  We are also committed to conserving energy and reducing waste.  Indeed, we encourage guests to join in this effort.  In 2014, Wellfleet became a “green” community.  As eco-tourism becomes more popular, we look forward to the time when other Cape establishments adopt the principles we embraced from the start..

-We provide 100% natural amenities.
-We use only “green” cleaning products.
-We do not use chemical fertilizers ever, just compost and well-rotted manure.
-We provide Cuddledown bed linens, certified by Oeko-Tex®, and, upon request, 100% organic cotton sheets from Coyuchi.
-We recycle plastics, bottles, and cardboard at the Wellfleet Transfer Station.
-We have one rule: no smoking and no pets.
-We purchased a high efficiency, frontloading washing machine as soon as it became available. We wash our cotton sheets with environmentally-friendly washing powder and line-dry whenever possible. Ditto for washing towels, which spin with dryer balls, not chemicals.
-Cape Cod is like a large sandbar and has a fragile ecosystem.  Every property in Wellfleet has its own well and septic. Ours is a Title-5. We test our water on a regular basis.

There are extra towels available, but we encourage guests to conserve water and energy by using what we provide. We will supply a change of sheets after three nights for guests who request it.

We use low-energy light bulbs.  We ask that Seagull Cottage guests lower the thermostat while they are out exploring Wellfleet and switch off the outdoor lights when not in use.
Disclaimer: Although the innkeepers do their best to provide a healthy, chemical-free environment, our bed and  breakfast is not appropriate for anyone with chemical sensitivities.
